In brief
On December 26, Singapore will open Bedok South on the Thomson‑East Coast Line, Xilin on the Downtown Line, and the Sungei Bedok interchange, linking two major rail corridors. Minister Jeffrey Siow announced the expansion at the Singapore Urban Mobility Week, noting that the new stations will give commuters in the east more travel options and shorter journey times. The opening is part of a broader plan that will see the Jurong Region Line open in 2028 and the Cross Island Line completed in the 2030s.
Singapore will open three new Mass Rapid Transit stations on Dec. 26, said Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance Jeffrey Siow during an opening speech at the Singapore Urban Mobility Week.
The new stations are Bedok South on the Thomson‑East Coast Line, Xilin on the Downtown Line, and Sungei Bedok, an interchange connecting the two lines.
By linking these two major rail corridors, the stations will give commuters in the eastern part of the city more travel options and shorter journey times, Siow said.
The expansion is part of a plan that will add more lines. The Jurong Region Line is expected to open in mid‑2028, while the Cross Island Line is scheduled for completion in the 2030s.
Singapore currently has an urban rail network spanning 275 km across eight lines.
