Xinhua reports that the Johor‑Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS‑SEZ) secured US$21.8 billion in approved investments from January 2025 to June 2026, with 45% implemented. The projects are linked to 28,755 potential jobs, including 12,796 already secured. Both Malaysia and Singapore reaffirmed their commitment to expand the zone at a ministerial meeting.

Johor‑Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS‑SEZ) has secured US$21.8 billion in approved investments from January 2025 to June 2026, according to a joint statement by Singapore’s Ministry of National Development and Malaysia’s Ministry of Economy.

About 45 percent of the approved investments – 40.3 billion ringgit – have already been implemented, the statement said.

The approved projects are linked to 28,755 potential employment opportunities, including 12,796 jobs associated with projects that have already been put into operation.

The progress was welcomed at the first meeting of the Johor‑Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee in Singapore on Monday, where officials praised the pace of implementation.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and accelerating the development of the economic zone.

The JS‑SEZ was established under an agreement signed by Malaysia and Singapore in January 2025. It aims to attract investment by combining the availability of land and lower operating costs in Johor, Malaysia’s southernmost state, with Singapore’s strengths in financial services and infrastructure.

"The approval of this investment package marks a significant milestone for the JS‑SEZ project," said a spokesperson from Singapore’s Ministry of National Development in the joint statement.
