In brief

At a press briefing in Moscow, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia has not made substantive progress in re‑establishing relations with the United States. Although Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed issues within multilateral settings, concrete steps like returning confiscated diplomatic assets and resuming direct air links remain undone. Dialogue continues, but remains largely business‑like.

At a press briefing in Moscow on Nov. 6, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Russia has made no substantive progress toward normalising relations with the United States.

According to Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, had discussed bilateral issues and potential cooperation within multilateral organisations such as the United Nations, the Group of Twenty, and the Asia‑Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

Despite these discussions, Zakharova said there was no tangible progress, citing two key areas that remain unresolved: the return of confiscated Russian diplomatic property and the resumption of direct flights between Moscow and Washington.

She added that dialogue with the United States continues at various levels and has remained "generally business‑like," suggesting that the talks continue but have not produced concrete outcomes.
