Caught in the Court: Fake Judges Arrested in Egypt
Egypt’s interior ministry announced that two men – one unemployed and one a student – were arrested for posing as judges on social media.
They ran a scheme that involved fake court scenes, wearing fake uniforms and promising citizens government‑backed housing deals – all while filming and posting the theatrics online.
Police seized a firearm, a mock judicial sash and ID cards bearing the title “judge.” The suspects admitted to filming inside courthouses and coordinating with court staff to enhance the illusion.
The case spread when a victim reported being duped by a man who claimed to be a judge. Authorities moved to an expedited criminal trial for the detained suspects.
The crackdown warns that anyone using fake authority online risks seeing it upturned in a real courtroom.
