In brief
At a G20 foreign‑ministers’ gathering in Atlanta, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan praised Turkey’s constructive proposals to tackle global challenges such as energy shortages and supply‑chain bottlenecks. He urged dialogue with Russia and Ukraine over Black Sea tensions and highlighted Turkey’s willingness to take a distinct, mediator‑oriented stance. The meeting, hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, set the stage for the leaders’ summit in Miami next month.
At the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta on Saturday, 1 November 2026, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Ankara offered practical proposals to address global crises such as energy disruptions and supply‑chain bottlenecks.
Fidan, speaking to Anadolu and Turkish public broadcaster TRT on the sidelines, highlighted the meeting’s timing amid the growing number of global crises, noting that the two‑day event was part of the preparations for the G20 leaders’ summit in Miami in December.
The ministers focused on three main sessions: global crises, energy security and supply‑chain disruptions. Fidan pointed to growing bottlenecks in the Black Sea, Gulf and Red Sea, warning that these waterways were seriously affecting global trade.
Global supply chains have been severely disrupted. Discussions have taken place over how we might remedy or resolve these issues, and what the international community should do in this regard.
He noted that talks involving Russia and supporters of Ukraine are “not always easy,” especially over the Black Sea and energy consequences of the Russia‑Ukraine war, but that such discussions are necessary to let countries clarify positions and explore solutions.
Fidan said Turkey seeks to distinguish itself through meaningful contributions rather than merely taking a different stance from other countries. “Türkiye certainly attaches importance not only to our role as a mediator but also—to taking a stance that is distinct from that of other countries: one that is more constructive and problem‑solving,” he said.
The meeting was hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and will feed into the upcoming G20 leaders’ summit in Miami.
