In brief

Tajikistan’s Ministry of Industry and New Technologies convened an 18‑hour AI conference in Dushanbe, where participants outlined plans to lift AI’s share of the nation’s GDP to 5% by 2040. Delegates from over 20 countries shared ideas on AI applications across sectors and on deepening cross‑border cooperation. The conference reflects the country’s ambition to build a high‑tech economy aligned with its national AI strategy.

In Dushanbe last week, the Tajik Ministry of Industry and New Technologies hosted an international conference on artificial intelligence, aiming to raise the AI industry’s contribution to the country’s GDP to 5 percent by 2040.

The two‑day event drew around 200 participants from more than 20 countries, according to the Ministry’s statement. Delegates debated how AI could be applied across different sectors of the national economy and how to expand international cooperation in the field.

Tajikistan has set the 5‑percent GDP target as part of its national AI development strategy. The conference was described by the Ministry as “a platform to explore prospects for AI development and to build stronger ties with the global AI community.”

Key areas of discussion included the role of AI in manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, and services, as well as how to create supportive policies and investment frameworks.

In addition to technical talks, the event’s agenda featured policy workshops and networking sessions designed to bring together governments, researchers, and industry leaders. The goal of these interactions is to attract AI investment and to help Tajikistan build a skilled workforce that can support the industry’s growth.

Officials said that the proposed 5‑percent GDP contribution by 2040 would position Tajikistan as a regional AI hub and help diversify its economy beyond traditional sectors.

Observers noted that the conference is a critical step toward integrating AI into the country’s long‑term economic planning.
