After Cyclone Ditwah, which struck Sri Lanka in late 2025 and killed more than 600 people and caused $4.1 billion in damage, the Cabinet of Ministers approved three contracts worth 3.33 billion rupees to repair damaged roads.

The contracts were awarded through a national competitive bidding process. The lowest substantially responsive bidders won, based on evaluations and recommendations from the High‑Level Procurement Committees.

All proposals were reviewed by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development before the Cabinet gave final approval.

The projects target several road sections that were severely damaged by the cyclone. Rebuilding these roads will help restore transport links and boost local economies that were hit hard by the storm.

The decision comes as the country continues to recover from the widespread damage. Restoring infrastructure is a priority to improve safety and enable people to move goods and services back to normal routes.

The new contracts represent a significant investment by the Sri Lankan government to repair and upgrade the roads that were damaged during the cyclone.
