A short‑video competition in Maputo on Monday celebrated the long‑standing friendship between China and Mozambique, marking the 2026 China‑Africa Year of People‑to‑People Exchanges.
The award ceremony, organized by the Confucius Institute at Eduardo Mondlane University with support from the Chinese Embassy in Mozambique, carried the theme "United Hearts, Shared Dreams: China and Mozambique".
More than 100 entries came in, drawn from students, journalists, entrepreneurs and employees of Chinese businesses in Mozambique.
Participants highlighted projects such as the Maputo‑Katembe Bridge and the Mozambique‑China Cultural Center, as well as personal stories about learning Chinese and everyday interactions between people of both countries.
Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Zheng Xuan congratulated the winners, saying the videos had built bridges of understanding between two peoples.
Each video, each moment, represents an encounter between civilizations and a communication between hearts.
He added that the participants could become ambassadors of China‑Mozambique friendship and share stories of a real and multidimensional China.
Ten first‑prize winners were invited to attend a China exchange visit, traveling to Beijing, Zhejiang Province and Shanghai to experience the country’s development and cultural heritage firsthand.
Eduardo Mondlane University rector Manuel Guilherme Junior praised the videos for demonstrating the enduring friendship and for the important role played by young people.
Venheque Hassane Ali, a representative of the exchange delegation, described visits to the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Yiwu International Trade Market in Zhejiang and the Bund in Shanghai, underscoring the cultural exchange fostered by the visit.
