In brief

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum reported a promising gas reservoir in the Temsah offshore block, estimating about 200 billion cubic feet of natural gas. Technical studies are ongoing and a 22‑km pipeline plan will connect the well to existing infrastructure to speed production. The discovery comes under a partnership with Italy’s Eni, Australia’s Woodside and the joint venture Petrobel.

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum announced that a drilling test in the Temsah concession in the eastern Mediterranean Sea has found a promising gas reservoir. Initial estimates put the gas volume at around 200 billion cubic feet.

The well produced a gas‑bearing layer that was about 15 meters thick and had good petrophysical characteristics, the ministry said. Technical and reservoir studies are now underway to determine how much of the gas can be recovered and to plan the size of future production.

The Temsah concession is operated by Italy’s Eni in partnership with Australia’s Woodside. Petrobel, a joint venture between Eni and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, carried out the drilling work on behalf of the partners.

To move the discovery to production quickly, Egypt plans a 22‑kilometer pipeline that will link the well to the existing Abu Madi‑El Gamil pipeline. The connection will use current infrastructure, cut development time and help raise domestic gas output.

Officials said the pipeline would support Egypt’s goal of increasing national gas supply and reduce reliance on imports.
