Iran sent a formal letter to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) demanding the release of three pilots it says were seized by Qatar after their fighter jets were struck by air‑defence fire during a joint operation at a Qatari military base on 2 March 2026. The pilots – Javad Salehi, Abdul Majid Dashtian and Imran Behroshian – are claimed to have been held for six months before the letter was written.

Brigadier General Mohammad Bagherzadeh’s correspondence accused Qatar of “violating the inalienable rights of these prisoners, contrary to all international laws and regulations” and of withholding contact with families. He also noted that the body of a fourth pilot, Majid Kazemi, had been returned after being killed in the same operation.

Qatar’s foreign‑affairs spokesman, Majed Mohammed Al Ansari, stated that the pilots had entered Qatari airspace and that the nation's air‑defence was responding within the bounds of international law. He said rescue teams had searched for remains, persuaded Iran to return a recovered body, and that Iran had yet to reply to a review invitation.
