E Jean Carroll, a former magazine columnist turned writer, has asked a judge to order former President Donald Trump to pay the judgment of about $5 million that a New York jury awarded her in May 2023 for sexual assault and defamation.
The request comes after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review Trump’s appeal, which left the payment decision unfinalised. Trump has repeatedly denied the allegations and continually sought to delay restitution, but Carroll’s lawyers argue that the delay tactics have ended.
Carroll’s case spanned four years of litigation from the first court filing to the most recent appeal. The former president also faces another defamation judgment, of roughly £3.7 million, from a 2024 jury decision.
In a note to the judge, Carroll’s lawyers called for the “time it is for him to pay,” citing the jury’s determination that Trump “was liable for sexually abusing and defaming” her. The case remains a high‑profile example of civil lawsuits involving public figures.
