Spotlight moment. A former Olympic canoe champ, David "Davey" Hearn, is now in hot water for purportedly damaging the Reflecting Pool after a $14M renovation.
According to the U.S. Attorney, Hearn was seen by witnesses reaching into the pool’s shoreline, ripping away part of the newly applied sealant that keeps the water clean.
The site, which already struggled with algae growth and leaks after its refurbishment, had been touched by several vandals this week—including five other people arrested and five federal citations issued.
President Trump fired back on social media, calling the vandals “sick, deranged people” and promising speedy repairs.
As the legal case unfolds, the iconic stretch of water between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument remains under spotlight, showing how even historic sites can become flashpoints for national conversation.
