Early Friday morning, a man entered Edmonton’s sprawling Nanaksar Gurdwara and stabbed two people, leaving them wounded. Police rushed to the scene, and by late morning a suspect was arrested, though authorities haven’t revealed his motive.
The attack echoes last week’s investigation into threatening calls aimed at two Sikh temples in Calgary, highlighting a disturbing rise in anti‑Sikh harassment across Canada.
The World Sikh Organization described the intruder’s action and said a Sikh scripture copy inside the temple was reportedly desecrated. Their statement reaffirmed that the Gurdwara remains closed while police complete the inquiry.
Calgary’s mayor, Jeromy Farkas, condemned the threats in his city, labeling them “utterly disgusting” and reminding everyone that gurdwaras are places of hospitality, welcoming everyone.
