In brief
In a thrilling turn of events, NSW Police recovered 40,061 stolen Bluey coins after a successful raid, following an investigation into a July heist that took 63,000 coins.
Police in Australia have made a significant recovery, finding over 40,000 limited-edition coins inspired by the beloved children's show Bluey. The coins were originally stolen in July when a warehouse in Western Sydney was targeted, resulting in the loss of 63,000 coins produced by the Australian Mint. Authorities successfully retrieved 40,061 coins in a raid near the storage site, just six miles away. Christina Vale, a 27-year-old arrested earlier that day, faces charges for breaking and entering and for her role in disposing of the stolen goods, marking her as the third suspect in the investigation. These coins, colloquially dubbed as Bluey dollarbucks, are valued at A$1 each, yet they were selling online for up to ten times their face value, stirring excitement among collectors. Following the theft, police initiated Strike Force Bandit, a special investigation named after Bluey’s father. Earlier arrests included warehouse employee Steven Nielsen and his accomplice Nassar Kanj, with police claiming Ms. Vale served as the getaway driver. The vibrant coins feature characters from Bluey, which has garnered massive popularity worldwide, airing in over 60 countries. With a total of 150 episodes, and a new interactive experience launching in Brisbane, Bluey continues to enchant audiences, including a staggering 20 billion streaming minutes on Disney+ in the US last year.
