In brief
Kilauea started erupting early in the morning, but officials assure residents that danger remains limited to a confined park area.
Hawaii's Kilauea volcano has come alive again, launching jets of vibrant lava into the sky! The volcanic eruption began around 2:00 AM local time (12:00 GMT), as reported by the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. Luckily, experts say there’s no immediate threat to nearby residents since the eruption is contained within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. However, they did warn that volcanic smog, known as vog, could affect areas further downwind. For those lucky enough to be in the sky, holidaymakers have reported catching a breathtaking view of the eruption right from their airplane windows. Keep an eye out for updates, and remember to appreciate nature’s fiery display from a safe distance!
