In brief
Samsung Electronics reported a 783% jump in operating profit to 107.4 trillion won and a 127% rise in revenue to 195.3 trillion won in the July‑September quarter. The surge was led by its semiconductor division, whose profit grew 783% and revenue hit 147.1 trillion won thanks to high‑bandwidth memory used in AI infrastructure. The results underscore the growing demand for AI hardware and Samsung’s focus on high‑bandwidth memory products.
Samsung Electronics posted an all‑time high operating profit and revenue in the third quarter, powered by a surge in demand for memory chips that power artificial‑intelligence (AI) systems. The record was announced in Seoul on Tuesday and reflects four straight quarters of record earnings.
The company’s operating profit climbed 783.1 percent year‑over‑year to 107.4 trillion won (about 80.4 billion U.S. dollars), while total revenue jumped 126.9 percent to 195.3 trillion won. Net income shot up 514.6 percent to 75.14 trillion won.
Chip division fuels the growth
Sekretary of the semiconductor unit posted an operating profit of 106.5 trillion won and revenue of 147.1 trillion won, a seven‑fold increase that shows the impact of AI workload demands on high‑bandwidth memory (HBM), a Samsung focus. The unit’s performance contributed the bulk of the company’s record numbers.
Samsung said it managed its product mix to favor AI products while scaling up sales of HBM4, anticipating that competition for AI leadership will shift more investment toward AI infrastructure in the fourth quarter.
Looking ahead, the company forecast that capital expenditure on AI infrastructure would reach a historic level in 2027, anticipating that demand will far outstrip supply. In the coming 2026 year, Samsung plans to up its investment in AI chip production by 62% to keep pace with the accelerating market.
The Q3 results underscore how AI applications are reshaping the semiconductor landscape, with Samsung positioned at the heart of the trend thanks to its focus on high‑bandwidth memory.
