In brief
Samsung Electronics announced a record operating profit of 107.4 trillion won (about $80.4 billion) in the July‑September quarter, powered by a surge in demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company’s semiconductor division posted a 783 percent jump in operating profit, while total revenue rose 127 percent to 195.3 trillion won. Analysts expect the AI-driven growth to continue, but supply constraints remain a concern.
Samsung Electronics, a South‑Korean tech giant, announced record operating profit and revenue for the third quarter, driven by a surge in memory chip demand for AI infrastructure.
The company’s operating profit reached 107.4 trillion won (about $80.4 billion), up 783.1 percent from the same period a year earlier, while revenue climbed 126.9 percent to 195.3 trillion won. Net income jumped 514.6 percent to 75.14 trillion won.
Samsung’s semiconductor unit delivered an operating profit of 106.5 trillion won and revenue of 147.1 trillion won, achieving another quarter‑over‑quarter record.
“The memory business achieved another record‑breaking quarter by managing its product mix, with a focus on AI products, amid capacity constraints. Strong demand momentum for servers led to higher market prices across all applications,” Samsung said in a company statement.
“It significantly scaled up sales of HBM4 on the back of industry‑leading product competitiveness while proactively addressing growing demand for server solid‑state drives.”
South Korean rival SK Hynix also posted record Q3 results, reporting $77.9 billion in revenue and $62.1 billion in operating profit, a surge driven by the same high‑bandwidth memory demand.
Samsung expects AI infrastructure capital expenditures to hit a historic level in 2027, with analysts saying AI‑driven demand will far outpace industry supply compared to 2026, though supply constraints and market volatility remain concerns.
