Two unmanned drones heading for Moscow were intercepted by the Defence Ministry’s air‑defence system, according to Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. Emergency teams have been clearing debris from the impact sites. The incident highlights ongoing vigilance around the city’s air space.

On Saturday, Moscow’s mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Russian air defenses had intercepted and destroyed two drones heading for the capital. The drones never reached the city’s center, according to the city’s emergency officials.

Mayor Sobyanin posted the information on the social‑network Max, noting that the Defence Ministry’s air‑defence system shot down the unmanned aerial vehicles before they could press on. The posts read:

Two unmanned aerial vehicles heading for Moscow have been destroyed by the Defense Ministry’s air defense system.

He added that emergency teams were on the ground at the sites where the debris fell, working to clear wreckage from the path of the intercepted aircraft.

These drones were part of a wave of attempts aimed at Moscow that have been intercepted by the fire‑control systems set up along the capital’s approach corridors. The city’s security agencies say the interceptions are a routine part of their defensive posture against potential threats.

Military analysts note that Moscow’s advanced early‑warning and interception network routinely engages unidentified aerial objects; however, the exact identities and origins of these particular drones have not been publicly disclosed. The Defence Ministry has said that Russian air defence forces will continue to monitor and guard the capital’s air space.

The incident underscores the heightened vigilance around the Kremlin amid rising tensions worldwide.
