In brief
On Monday, Pakistan’s National Emergency Operations Center rolled out a nationwide polio vaccination campaign targeting 24 million children under five in 97 districts. The drive will last until November 8 and involves more than 200,000 workers who will visit homes to administer the vaccine. Pakistan is running the program at the same time as Afghanistan, underscoring the regional fight against polio.
On Monday, Pakistan launched a new polio vaccination campaign aimed at immunising about 24 million children under five in 97 districts. The effort was announced by the National Emergency Operations Center, or NEOC, and is set to run until November 8.
The NEOC said it has mobilised more than 200,000 frontline workers to carry out door‑to‑door vaccinations. Workers will visit families in their homes to give children the polio drops.
Pakistan’s campaign runs at the same time as Afghanistan’s, the NEOC noted, so that the two countries can work together to stop the spread of the disease.
Officials urged parents to make sure all their children under the age of five receive the vaccine and to cooperate with the vaccination teams. They explained that repeated doses help reinforce children’s immunity against polio.
The NEOC will monitor the progress of the campaign and will provide updates as it continues. The goal is to reach every child in the targeted districts before the end of the week, strengthening the country’s defense against polio and supporting global eradication efforts.
