On Sunday, November 8, more than 100 media experts and scholars from the Trans‑Himalayan region gathered at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh for the fourth Trans‑Himalayan Communication and Social Development Conference. The event, co‑organised by China’s University of Electronic Science and Technology, the University of Dhaka, Kangba TV and Himalaya Television, aims to build shared knowledge about digital intelligence and regional development. The three‑day conference will run until November 11.

Key topics include artificial intelligence, misinformation, cross‑border communication, climate governance, and media cooperation. Participants will discuss how digital tools can strengthen regional ties while tackling challenges such as misinformation and climate risks. The agenda also highlights the importance of mutual understanding and trust among countries in the Trans‑Himalayan zone.

A media forum will bring together representatives from several countries to share views on media credibility and responsibility. The forum will open the floor for debate on how media can promote people‑to‑people exchanges in a digital era.

Besides the forum, the conference offers a photo and video exhibition and a book exhibition to showcase regional media work. A media industry study tour will lead participants through Bangladesh’s media landscape, giving them firsthand experience of local media operations.

The study tour will visit key media houses such as Bangladesh Television and Dhaka Metropolitan Radio. Attendees will observe how local content is produced and distributed, gaining insights into how digital broadcasting has expanded access to news.

Organisers hope the conference will leave lasting partnerships and concrete plans to share AI technologies and media practices across borders. This collaboration could help the region adapt more quickly to new media realities and support sustainable development.
