In brief

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will launch a smart monitoring system that uses IoT devices and advanced cameras to collect real‑time data on delivery motorcycle riders. The system will stay optional for delivery companies until June 2027, when it becomes mandatory, aiming to improve safety and fleet performance. RTA’s director, Saeed Al Ramsi, highlighted the system’s data‑driven oversight and its potential to drive early corrective action.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on 3 November 2026 that it will launch the first integrated smart monitoring system for delivery motorcycles. The platform will use IoT devices and cameras to record data on speed, sudden acceleration, harsh braking, driving patterns, location and route. Delivery companies can access real‑time analytics to see how their riders perform and to spot unsafe behavior quickly.

The system will be optional for companies until the end of June 2027. After that, mounting the monitoring equipment on every delivery motorcycle will be required by law.

"The new system marks a step‑change in monitoring of delivery activity…[it] will gather and analyse data on driving indicators and on‑road behaviour…," Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at RTA, said in a statement.

"By giving companies practical tools to monitor the performance of their fleets and riders in real time, the system will enable them to take early corrective and awareness measures, thereby improving delivery service quality and raising safety and security standards across this vital sector."

Al Ramsi added that the platform will give advanced operational indicators to help delivery firms upgrade fleet management, analyze driving patterns and use precise data to guide training programs. He said that the system’s success depends on regulators, companies and riders working together to ensure safer and more sustainable delivery operations.

The RTA’s move follows a broader push to use technology for safer roads in Dubai, including plans to require smart monitoring of delivery bikes and to tighten traffic compliance rules in the coming years.
