In brief
Former Wallabies coach and prominent media figure, Alan Jones, has been arrested after allegations of sexual abuse spanning nearly two decades, prompting a police investigation.
An investigation into a series of sexual abuse allegations has led to the arrest of Alan Jones, an iconic figure in Australian media. The 83-year-old was taken into custody by detectives from New South Wales Police's Child Abuse Squad at his Sydney apartment on Monday morning. A search of the property followed the arrest. Since March, a specialized task force has been looking into multiple incidents of indecent assault and sexual touching that reportedly occurred between 2001 and 2019. Jones has previously denied any wrongdoing, responding to allegations first reported by The Sydney Morning Herald in 2023. Before his controversial host role on local radio station 2GB, Jones was the head coach of Australia's national rugby union team from 1984 to 1988 and later transitioned to a long-standing broadcasting career. He retired from active media work in 2020 due to health concerns. Further updates from the police are expected later today.
