In brief
In a painful twist of fate, Eli Sharabi emerged from captivity to discover his family's tragedy amidst the ongoing conflict.
Eli Sharabi's life turned upside down after he willingly surrendered to Hamas on October 7, 2023, in a desperate attempt to shield his wife and daughters during a violent raid on their home in Kibbutz Be’eri. Captured and imprisoned in the underground tunnels of Gaza for nearly 500 days, he was unaware of the catastrophe that had befallen his family. When he was finally released, he learned that his wife, Lianne, and two daughters, Noiya and Yahel, had tragically been killed during the assault. The horrifying news was compounded by the loss of his brother, Yossi, who also perished in captivity. Upon his return to Israel, Eli was reunited with his surviving family members, who had been agonizingly unsure of how to share the devastating news with him. Their reunion was bittersweet, marked by relief and profound sorrow. Eli and fellow hostages are now on their way to the United States to meet with government officials, including President Trump, as part of ongoing discussions following a recent cease-fire that enabled hostage exchanges.
