A bomb exploded in a crowded café in central Damascus, killing six people and injuring 22.
The interior ministry says the explosive was planted inside the café, just 100 metres from the Palace of Justice in the Hejaz district.
So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
This is the deadliest bombing in Damascus since a 2025 suicide attack on a church that killed 25 people.
The Islamic State is suspected by authorities, despite a shadowy jihadist group, Saraya Ansar al‑Sunnah, claiming responsibility for the earlier church attack.
Local shop owner Mohammed al‑Dahabi described the trampling scene, saying he saw people lying on the floor with blood.
Graphic video footage on social media shows men motionless on the café’s terrace.
Damascus Governor Maher Marwan Idlibi said those responsible will be punished, noting each period of stability is followed by attempts to destabilise the country.
The city has seen multiple attacks since the overthrow of Bashar al‑Assad in December 2024.
Interim President Ahmed al‑Sharaa is still consolidating control and restoring security across Syria.
Sectarian clashes between government forces and members of Alawite and Druze minorities have also erupted in recent months.
