Australia’s foreign minister Penny Wong announced she was outraged after Israel chose not to prosecute the death of aid worker Zomi Frankcom and her six colleagues, who were killed in a Gaza airstrike in April 2024.
The incident involved Australian volunteers from World Central Kitchen and took place during a hit on what Israeli forces said was a mistaken target, but the IDF later admitted serious procedural errors.
Wong stated the decision falls far short of the accountability expected and described it as especially insulting given it happened on World Humanitarian Day. She will call Israel’s ambassador Hillel Newman and direct Australia’s envoy to Israel to convey Australia’s concerns.
Australia vows to press Israel for justice for Frankcom and her colleagues, asserting it will continue to seek accountability for this tragic loss.
