AFL Players Referred to Police Over Alleged Melbourne Incident

Several players from the top club Sydney Swans have been referred to police over an alleged incident in Melbourne on Sunday night.

Victoria Police are conducting a police investigation into a possible sexual assault at a hotel on Wellington Parade in East Melbourne in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The club confirmed the incident happened after their victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, but said it was “still piecing together exactly what transpired.” Chief executive Matthew Pavlich expressed shock and disappointment at “how the players have found themselves in this situation.”

While the police spokesman said the circumstances were yet to be established, the investigation is ongoing and the AFL has been informed.

Details such as how many players were involved, whether any arrests have been made, or the specifics of the allegations remain undisclosed for now.

Police reminder: the exact circumstances are being established and the investigation remains ongoing.

Pavlich declined to comment further on the matter. The AFL says Sydney made the league aware of the issue and it is under police investigation.
