In brief
Zelenskyy said Russia is gearing up for a major attack on Ukraine’s energy and logistics systems, using intelligence reports to warn the international community. He urged global pressure on Russia and pledged Ukraine’s readiness to counter such attacks. The announcement follows recent intelligence claims and comes as the US focuses on its midterm elections.
In a nightly address on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia is preparing a new large‑scale attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and logistics.
He said Moscow appears to be betting that the US midterm elections will distract global attention from the war, including Ukraine’s air‑defence issues and shortages of Patriot missiles.
“We must not play games with Russia’s oil and gas revenues. We must put so much pressure on Russia that it has no alternative but to end this war,” Zelenskyy said, urging the international community to send a clear signal that Russia’s actions will be costly.
He added that Ukraine is justified in responding to any Russian attack, noting that its strikes are having a tangible impact and hitting their targets.
According to the Ukrainian president, the new Russian tactic will target not only power plants but also energy grids and distribution networks.
While Russia has not yet responded to these allegations, Ukraine claims it is ready to counter the impending assault.
In a similar brief, the president repeated the warning in a Fox News report: "We have intel that Russia is preparing a new massive attack on our country – primarily targeting energy and logistics," Zelenskyy said, emphasizing the strategic importance of Ukraine’s supply lines.
The message calls for international pressure and underscores the stakes: if Russia succeeds, Ukraine’s electricity supply and logistics will suffer, damaging civilians and the country’s war efforts.
Ukraine’s statement serves as a reminder that the fight for energy and supply networks remains a critical front in the conflict.
