A 22‑year‑old man from Western Australia has been charged by authorities with planning a terrorist attack, a senior Australian security agency said on Friday.
The WA Joint Counter Terrorism Team said the man was first arrested in December 2025 and originally faced nine offenses. A further charge was added for activities that, they say, prepared for or planned terrorism.
Investigators allege the man asked for help on messaging platforms about explosive devices, military and tactical training, weapons manufacturing, combat techniques and fake documents. Those requests were part of the alleged planning for an attack.
The WA Joint Counter Terrorism Team is made up of officers from the Western Australia Police, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation.
If found guilty, the man could be sentenced to life in prison, the team warned. Investigations are still ongoing, and the case will be heard in court in the coming months.
