A collision between a Renfe state‑owned train and a stationary Iryo private train near Urda station in the province of Toledo, Spain, on 28 October 2026, killed at least 50 people and injured 179.

The crash occurred around 8:54 a.m. local time, about 120 km south of Madrid. Preliminary reports say the Renfe train struck the rear of the Iryo train that had been stationary on the tracks, causing two carriages to derail and plunge down an embankment.

The Chinese Embassy in Spain confirmed that four Chinese nationals were aboard the trains involved in the collision; at least one of them sustained a minor injury.

Adif, the Spanish railway infrastructure operator, announced that rail services between Madrid and Andalusia would be suspended while the investigation proceeds. Political parties across Spain cancelled scheduled activities on the day, and emergency services are on the ground to assist those affected.

Pedro Sánchez posted on social media:

"Shocked by the serious train accident in Toledo," he wrote, adding that emergency services are on the ground to assist those impacted.

The accident comes nine months after another major railway incident near Adamuz in the province of Córdoba that killed 46 people.

Officials are working to determine the cause of the collision and to prevent future accidents on the high‑speed network.
