In brief

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani revealed that his personal data had been posted on the dark web by pro‑Russian hackers. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni blamed the attackers and described the leak as a grave concern. Tajani warned that the cyber‑attack could threaten his family and linked the incident to Italy’s stance on Ukraine.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that his personal data had been published on the dark web by pro‑Russian hackers, a claim that Paris‑based Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned as a serious security breach.

Tajani said in a social media post that, “for days now, cybercriminals have been publishing my personal data on the dark web and seeking further information, effectively exposing me to new threats and intimidation.”

Tajani added that the attackers were also targeting his family, noting that they “are willing to pay for more details about me and my loved ones.”

Prime Minister Meloni called the attempts to sell confidential information “a matter of grave concern that must be addressed with the utmost determination.”

The Italian officials said the attack may be linked to Italy’s firm stance on Ukraine and to recent efforts to strengthen the Foreign Ministry’s digital defences.

Officials stated they are treating the threat as a serious risk and are coordinating their response with allied governments to protect officials and their families from further cyber intimidation.
