In brief

Vietnamese authorities have arrested beauty queen Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien after she falsely advertised fibre gummies, leading to public outrage and official investigations.

In a shocking turn of events, Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, the crowned Miss Grand International 2021, has found herself on the wrong side of the law. Vietnamese authorities arrested the popular beauty queen and influencer for consumer fraud after it was revealed that her promoted fibre gummies, known as Kera Supergreens Gummies, contained far less fibre than claimed. Marketing the gummies across her social media platforms, Tien touted them as having the equivalent fiber of a plate of vegetables, fabricating the nutritional value. Each gummy reportedly contained only 16mg of fiber instead of the 200mg she advertised. An investigation was spurred by a concerned consumer who sent the product for lab testing, uncovering the discrepancies between claims and actual content. The gummies were marketed in collaboration with fellow influencers Pham Quang Linh and Hang Du Muc, all of whom faced implications in the investigation. Following initial fines in March and subsequent admissions of fault, the legal trouble escalated, culminating in the arrest of Tien and her counterparts on charges of producing counterfeit goods and misleading consumers. Authorities reported that over 100,000 boxes of the gummies have been sold before the scam saw sales brought to a halt. Tien, once celebrated as a national icon and recipient of accolades from the government, now faces the fallout of this significant public scandal.
