🏛️ Trump’s ballroom battle just got a new arena – the Supreme Court.
After an appeals court halted construction on 19 May, the White House is asking the highest court to let the 65% finished ballroom keep moving, citing security and events needs.
The project is a $400 million ($295 m) build, but the administration says it’s entirely funded by private donors, so they argue it doesn’t need congressional approval.
The lawsuit was launched by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which claims that the work began without the required legal review and public comment.
If the Supreme Court denies the request, the stop‑work order will go into effect on 21 August and the ballroom will have to pause.
Trump says the space is a key security hub – it will host events, bomb‑shelter nodes, and medical centres – but critics say it’s another “vanity project” that bypasses the rules.
The case is part of Trump’s broader makeover plans for Washington, which also include the “Arc de Trump” and a revamped Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
