The vessel, named Mikhail Britnev, sailed from Russia’s Baltiysk port, sat under the watch of a Russian warship, then quietly turned off its transponder before lighting up again in Togo’s capital, Lomé.

The truck haul turned up on Malian TV footage in Bamako on 25 July. They include BTR‑style armored personnel carriers and light infantry vehicles, the same type that Russian troops and their Africa Corps allies use in the north.
