Roof collapse kills 14 children at private tuition centre
On 30 June 2026 a roof collapsed onto a private tuition centre in the Kahna suburb of Lahore, Pakistan, killing 14 children under ten. The incident was reported at 16:45 (12:45 BST) by Rescue 1122 spokesmen.
Rescue teams reached the scene within an hour, rescuing several survivors and treating the injured. Authorities arrested two people during the initial inquiry into the collapse.
Residents testified that the roof had been in poor shape and that tiles were undergoing repairs; the added weight was said to have triggered the failure. One man who said his niece was among the victims described the sudden collapse as “sudden” and blamed the heavy tiles that were on the roof.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif released a statement praying for the recoveries of the injured and demanding that all responsible parties be held to account. Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif called the event a heartbreaking tragedy, adding that the loss of 14 innocent lives was immeasurable sorrow and that every individual found accountable would face the full force of the law.
