King Harald V’s Health Update

King Harald V in Oslo University Hospital

The palace has announced that Norway’s King Harald V is hospitalized with a serious bacterial infection that has entered his bloodstream. He is receiving antibiotics and is being closely watched by doctors at Oslo University Hospital.

Because of his health, the 89‑year‑old monarch will remain on sick leave and will miss public duties until the situation improves. He was admitted last week and has spent several days in treatment.

During his recovery, Crown Prince Haakon, who is 53, has stepped in as regent, carrying out the king’s responsibilities for the time being. Haakon’s wife, Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, had already spent last year recovering after a lung transplant, a story that shows how health struggles can touch even the royal family.

Fans of the Norwegian palace can expect updates as the king’s condition improves. In the meantime, the royal family continues to navigate a challenging year marked by both medical and personal events. Stay tuned for more updates!
