Billionaire investor Leon Black has bypassed a congressional hearing on the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, instead filing a lawsuit against the House Oversight Committee, calling the subpoenas “invalid” and “unconnected to any legitimate legislative purpose.”
The subpoenas, issued after Black left the committee meeting in June, demanded he share nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) with Epstein and provide an on‑camera deposition under oath. Black argues that revealing the NDAs could expose women who signed them for privacy and would expose nothing about misconduct.
Officials warned that Black’s refusal might bring contempt of Congress and potential referral to the Justice Department. Shadowing the case is the broader debate about congressional reach and the unresolved questions surrounding Epstein’s network of high‑profile associates.
