In brief
On 5 Oct a man who travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo died of Ebola in Nairobi, Kenya’s first confirmed case. Eight days later a 65‑year‑old woman, a close family member of the first victim, also died after quarantine. The Ministry says all cases belong to one cluster and no community spread has been found. Kenya has stepped up border checks, digital health forms and public awareness, warning travellers from high‑risk countries.
Kenya’s first Ebola case—a man who travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo—died on 5 Oct in Nairobi. He was treated in several hospitals before passing a few days later.
Seven other patients, all linked to that first case, are currently in isolation. They include three relatives, three health workers and a hospital cleaner.
The second death was a 65‑year‑old woman, a close family member of the first victim, who developed symptoms while under quarantine. Officials say there is no evidence of community spread.
Kenya has stepped up screening: travellers from nine high‑risk countries must fill out digital health forms, show a QR code and undergo enhanced medical checks. The country also urges citizens to wash hands, avoid close contact with sick people and report suspected cases at the nearest hospital.
