More than 50 arson attacks were reported across Thailand’s fighting‑ridden south, targeting buildings, vehicles and telecom towers. Two people injured, and a bomb blast added to the violence. Most incidents concentrated in Narathiwat, with Yala and Pattani also hit. The military imposed an overnight curfew, which ended Sunday with no further attacks. The events come amid stalled peace talks and the next ministerial visit to Hat Yai.

Over 50 coordinated fires were launched across Thailand’s southern provinces between 8 pm and midnight Saturday, damaging a government office, a convenience store, stolen vehicles and several telecom towers. Two people were wounded and a bomb exploded in Muang district, adding to the list of violent incidents.

The attacks were concentrated in Narathiwat, with Yala and Pattani also affected. Military officials set a curfew for Narathiwat, lifting it Sunday morning after no further attacks were reported.

No organisation has claimed responsibility. The unrest follows decades of conflict in the Muslim‑majority south where insurgents seek autonomy, the Barisan Revolusi Nasional leading the movement. Peace talks, encouraged by Malaysia since 2013, have stalled repeatedly, with a recent gun and bomb attack killing five soldiers in Narathiwat.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and cabinet members will visit Hat Yai next week to discuss investment, flood prevention and security, amid concerns that violence may disrupt regional initiatives.
