Russia launches deadliest aerial attack in months, killing 18 in Ukraine

In a shocking development, Russia has launched more than 700 drones and missiles at Ukraine overnight in what local officials describe as the deadliest attack in months, resulting in at least 18 fatalities.

The southern port city of Odesa suffered the most, with nine casualties reported. In addition, five were killed in Dnipro and four, including a young child, in the capital, Kyiv. As the situation unfolded, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that rescue efforts were underway, with emergency crews working at the site of a Russian missile strike.

Images and videos from eyewitnesses depicted vast fires and clouds of black smoke rising from impacted areas, heightening concerns for civilian safety.

This surge in violence follows a brief ceasefire during the Orthodox Easter holiday, which both sides claimed had been violated multiple times. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the assaults and emphasized the need for robust sanctions against Russia, describing the recent wave of attacks as evidence of Russia's commitment to war.

As Ukraine faces a critical defense shortage, including a lack of air defense missiles, global allies are being urged to take immediate action to bolster support.
