In brief

Following the tragic murder of hip-hop artist C Gambino in 2024, three men have been sentenced for their roles in the shooting linked to gang violence in Sweden. The court deemed the attack a calculated execution, while investigations into the broader local gang conflict continue.

Three men in their 20s have been sentenced for their involvement in the fatal shooting of celebrated Swedish hip-hop star C Gambino, whose real name was Karar Ramadan, in Gothenburg in June 2024. The rapper was recognized at the Grammis music awards just a month before his death. Although convicted of aiding and abetting murder, the court could not definitively identify which of the suspects fired the fatal shots, and the actual weapon remains undiscovered. The shooting, described by prosecutors as a premeditated act tied to local gang conflicts, left many questions unanswered regarding the motive behind the attack. C Gambino, aged 26, was shot in a multi-storey car park, where investigators later discovered CCTV footage showing the attackers’ vehicle entering the area days before the murder.Despite the search for DNA evidence leading to dead ends, prosecutors pieced together mobile data and video recordings to connect the suspects to the crime. One assailant received a life sentence, while the others were handed sentences of 15.5 and 12.5 years, respectively. The viral nature of gang violence in Sweden has raised significant concerns, especially regarding youth involvement in crime, evidenced by another recent case where young boys were implicated in a gang-related murder but escaped punishment due to their age.As the investigation unfolds, police in Iraqi Kurdistan have reportedly apprehended a key member linked to the notorious Foxtrot gang, which has been involved in multiple killings, further highlighting the pervasive issue of gang violence in Sweden.
